Candle Safety & Care Tips

Having purchased your candle you will likely be keen to light it and enjoy its ambience and refreshing fragrances. We have compiled a few suggestions that will make the whole experience safer and more enjoyable.

WARNING – Keep out of reach of children and pets. Avoid eye and skin contact. Not for consumption. Always read the label on the base of the candle before use.

Preparing Candle

  • Ensure all packaging is removed i.e. all cardboard or soft (pouch) packaging and labelling.
  • Ensure the candle container is not cracked, chipped or dented.
  • Ensure your candle is positioned out of reach of children and animals.
  • Ensure your candle is not in the proximity of any hanging items and flammable decorations, i.e. curtains, fabrics, under shelves, enclosed spaces or soft furnishings etc.
  • Ensure your candle is positioned to allow effective dispersion of heat, always check there is sufficient headroom above the candle.
  • Ensure your candle is positioned outside of the influence of draughts.
  • Ensure your candle will not be influenced by direct sunlight or heat from other sources such as television sets.
  • Ensure your candle is placed on a heat-resistant non-combustible level flat surface.
  • Trim the wick height to 5mm, your candle has been designed and tested to burn most efficiently at this wick height. For correct and consistent trimming of the wick consider using a wick trimmer

Burning Candle

  • Certainly for the first 2 or 3 burn cycles ensure you continuously burn your candle for 3-4 hours (this will depend on the fragrance type and ambient conditions). By doing this the wax pool will spread sufficiently across the diameter of the candle. If the candle is not burnt sufficiently, it is likely ‘tunnelling’ will occur. ‘Tunnelling’ describes where the candle continues to burn down the container but the burn pool does not spread across the diameter of the candle. As the candle is burnt and the wax level reduces tunnelling will likely become less of a problem.
  • Never leave your burning candle unattended.
  • Always put candles out when you leave the room and make sure they are extinguished completely before going to bed.
  • Extinguish your candle when 10mm of wax remains within the container.
  • Be careful as all candle containers can get very hot particularly when the wax level nears the bottom of the container.
  • Do not move a burning candle without extinguishing it first.
  • Ensure the molten wax pool is kept clear of any debris.
  • Ensure children and pets are kept away from your candle, matches and lighters at all times.

Extinguishing Candle

  • When extinguishing your candle always use a candle snuffer or alternatively use a metal spoon.
  • Never blow a candle out as it may cause the hot wax to splash or sparks could fly.
  • Never use liquid to extinguish a candle.
  • Once your candle has been extinguished ensure it is not smoking and completely out.
  • Always be mindful that prior to touching your candle container it could still be hot.
  • Although all of our container candles come with metal lids, we advise the lid should NOT be used to extinguish the candle flame(s).

Disposing of Candle

  • Always dispose of any residual reed diffuser contents to an approved disposal site, in accordance with local regulations.

Diffuser Safety & Care Tips

Having purchased your reed diffuser you will likely be keen to use it and enjoy its ambience and refreshing fragrances. We have compiled a few suggestions that will make the whole experience safer and more enjoyable.

WARNING – Keep out of reach of children and pets. Avoid eye and skin contact. Not for consumption. Always read the label on the base of the reed diffuser before use.

Preparing Reed Diffuser

  • Ensure all packaging is removed i.e. all cardboard and labelling.
  • Ensure the diffuser container ensuring is not cracked or chipped.
  • Unscrew the silver cap from the glass diffuser bottle and carefully remove the plastic transit plug (carry out this operation where surfaces are protected in case of spillage). Refit the silver cap to the glass diffuser bottle.
  • Remove packaging from the rattan reeds and carefully place into glass diffuser bottle. Select 3-5 rattan reeds depending on the throw and intensity you require.

Using Reed Diffuser

  • The best position for your reed diffuser is where there is air movement and not too close to heat sources i.e. radiators.
  • Ensure you protect all polished / painted / plastic surfaces as spillages will cause damage.
  • Ensure your diffuser is positioned on a flat protected surface.
  • Ensure you carefully wipe up any spillages immediately as these will harm polished/painted/plastic surfaces.
  • The fragrance / augeo base diffuser liquid will evaporate over time and will likely last between 8-10 weeks dependent on the ambient conditions.
  • To optimise fragrance throw ensure you regularly turn the rattan reeds.
  • Ensure you do not use your diffuser for purposes other than originally intended. Do not try to light / burn the reed diffuser sticks.

Disposing of Reed Diffuser

  • Always dispose of any residual reed diffuser contents to an approved disposal site, in accordance with local regulations.
